In One piece episode 1071 during the monstrous fight with Kaido, one of the four emperors, Luffy had activated the 5th Gear mid-battle. The Luffy Gear 5. By which, he was totally victorious. We have seen all the Gear forms of Luffy’s Hito hito no mi (Gomu Gomu no Mi) Devil fruit. Including the various abilities transformations they’ve brought on. To sum up the Gear 5’s power, Luffy’s Gear 5 includes the following abilities:
Luffy’s Abilities Are Characterized As Fierce
Similar to other Gear modes, Gear 5 has brought on new groundbreaking abilities in reference to:
Rubber transformation: Luffy can transform surfaces into rubber. Which allows him to cushion himself from blows, bounce off surfaces, or launch himself.
Imagination: Luffy can create objects from various resources, such as making goggles from his flaming hair.
Affecting others: Luffy can affect others as if they were made of rubber, such as inflating Kaido like a balloon. (This can only be achieved by contact)
The capacity to spread his stretchy nature to his surroundings is one of Luffy Gear 5’s Paramecia awakenings. He can protect himself from strong assaults and even launch or bounce off whatever surface his power impacts by making it stretchy. He can also stretch surfaces to bounce attacks back at his opponent. Interestingly, the altered terrain is seemingly more resilient than normal. Luffy has even applied this effect to intangible matter, such as lightning and clouds, as well as to organic material.
Although Luffy Gear 5 punches cause his opponents’ bodies to stretch around his fists, they still transfer the force of the attacks. Interesting thing to note: A piece of the Skull Dome’s roof was neither burnt nor melted while reflecting a Bolo Breath attack, although the attack could melt through any hard surface despite being by a mountain or castle due to the ability.
Techniques Seen Used By Luffy
These are the following abilities be seen used during by Luffy Gear 5:
Gomu Gomu no Fusen:
“Rubber Rubber Balloon” is the literal translation. A variation on Luffy’s usual method, the primary distinction being that Luffy Gear 5 body becomes incredibly buoyant, like a helium balloon. This was initially employed against Kaido when he was in his Beast form, when Luffy extended both himself and the dragon by entering the emperor’s body. This is also known as Gum-Gum Balloon in different adaptations.
Gomu Gomu no Gigant:
By translations, it refers to “Rubber Rubber Giant”. A move in which Luffy, as though turning on Gear 3 for his whole body, grows into a real giant. For fun measures, this is known as Gum-Gum Giant in the Funimation and VIZ manga versions. Although there is nothing after Gigant, the technique’s name adheres to the Gear 3 naming scheme.
Gomu Gomu no Bajrang Gun:
The most potent method Luffy has ever employed in any form up to this point is the Gear 5 variant of Gomu Gomu no King Kong Gun. In order to emit power, by Inflating his fist to nearly the size of Onigashima. Luffy Gear 5 applies both Supreme King Haki-infusion and advanced-grade Armament to it before launching it at his opponent. Intending to outwardly emit his Haki to punch them without making direct contact, for a crushing blow. The name basically refers to “Rubber Rubber Monkey God Gun” in English, which actually sounds kind of funny.

Luffy Gear 5 Outer Transformations
His eyes glow with red ring-like pupils (pink in the anime), his hair and clothing turn white, all except for his trademark straw hat, sash, and sandals. Similarly, the white clouds resemble the clouds of steam that accompany him in Gear 4, floating about his neck. He also raises his eyebrows, making them billow and swirl. Similar to how most Zoan transformations involve the removal of clothing, it appears that Gear 5 also changes Luffy’s attire. mainly to his typical sandals and slacks rather than anything else he is wearing. When Gear 5 is deactivated, the outfit will reappear.
Zunesha has referred to the musical cadence that Luffy’s heartbeat assumes as the “Drums of Liberation” (Kaihō no Doramu). Luffy apparently only has to make his heart beat in time with the Drums of Liberation to initiate the transformation. Luffy Gear 5 radiates infectious joy and laughter when he enters or remains in this state for extended periods of time. Making even his most seasoned adversaries laugh throughout battles. He feels light and very creative, and he tends to laugh more.
